3rd EPDP’s Branch Congress in Oslo

The EPDP’s branch in Norway conducted successfully its 3rd Congress under the slogan Change comes by united struggle only, on 18 Oct 2014 in the city of Oslo. Branch members attended this event from over all the land including from different camps of asylum seekers.

The chairman in the Branch, Mr. Dawit Araya updated the Congress with vast and inclusive information on the current situation in homeland, on the opposition camp, on the Eritrean Peoples’ Democratic Party and its branch in Norway. In his address about movements for change in the country, Mr. Dawit mentioned the Forto Asmara event on 23 January 2013 by our Hero Wedi Ali, the refusal of remobilization program by militants aged 50s, the vast and of heavy message written document by the Bishops of the Eritrean Catholic Church under the title WHERE IS YOUR BROTHER?,andthe Excommunicating Official Letter by the six different missionary sectors of the Eritrean Orthodox Church. The Chairman analyzed this stating that the opposition and refusal of the dictatorial regime in Eritrea which started fleeing the country in exodus, now gradually has being developed into voice and action even in the territory of the land by some parts of the nation.

Listing the Declaration of Pretoria, the unique Frankfort Festival of 2014 by EPDP, the Bologna Summit and similar other events, Mr. Dawit said that even the opposition camp is now in its promising atmosphere to unity and harmony. In addition, Dawit mentioned the Umbrella of the Eritrean Forces for Democratic Change in Norway which is going to hold it 2nd Congress next week in the City of Bergen as typical model for harmony and joint action.

Mr. Medhanie Habtezghi, Secretary in the branch, following the Chairman, presented detailed annual report on political, personal, diplomacy and relations, and on social affairs. The Secretary concluded his informative presentation stating that though we can say we have done to the extent of our capacity despite the hardship of living in third country as refugees and asylum seekers, we should however not be proud of what we have done as long as we have not achieved our destination, justice and democracy in our country.The treasury man in the branch Mr. Mahder Okubazghi on his turn gave his annual report on finance and property based on incomes and outcomes. 

In the time which was allocated for questions and comments, the audience of the congress expressed their satisfaction and trust on the presented report and adored the branch leadership for its dedication. 

The Congress then proceeded to election of new branch leaders. Being led by the democratic election principles which they also stated in the Party Constitution; the assembly then reaffirmed the previous branch leaders for another one year’s term.

The Congress then held a vast discussion on social affairs issue giving its special focus on the conditions of the veteran handicaps for Independence who are situated in Kassala, Sudan, the Eritrean Refugee School in Wde-Sherifo, the maintenance of poor children from remote and the worrying condition of the huge asylum seekers in Norway. Finally, a committee of two members was formed with the special mandate of following these issues.
