On 24 and 25 March, the EPDP North America Zone and the EPDP Frankfurt Branch held, respectively, very important periodical meetings, thus becoming exemplary EPDP organs in the rejuvenation and reinforcement programme to speed up the much delayed success of the struggle for democratic change in Eritrea.

The main agenda item of the EPDP North America Zone meeting was receiving performance reports from all branches in the United States and Canada. The meeting was highly satisfied with the success so far achieved in registering an increasing number of women as well as young boys and girls and the return to party ranks of former freedom fighters who were not so active in recent years. Meeting participants also commended the active participation in the recent fund-raising drive, and the ongoing efforts of the information and cultural units of the NA Zone.

 On its part, the EPDP Branch for Frankfurt and Environs held its regular monthly meeting on 25 March with an educational topic as its main agenda item. Prepared and presented by Tadesse Asmelash, the branch chairman, the three-hour long educational discussion focused on provisions related to three stages in the struggle as enshrined in the EPDP Political Programme adopted at the Second Congress in the summer of 2015. The three stages covered in the discussion paper were:

  • The current struggle for first removing the dictatorial regime in Eritrea;
  • The common task of all national forces in the transitional period (after the fall of the regime). Priority tasks enumerated in the EPDP Political Programme include guaranteeing peace and security, and the building of institutions that would guarantee the future democratic state, and
  • Thirdly, the political, economic and social pillars of a constitutional government in post-dictatorship Eritrea.
