Swiss papers reported this week that arrival of Eritrean asylum seekers in Switzerland was less than in the previous 10 months of the year 2015 although they are still leading the monthly arrival of refugees, including those from war-torn Syria and Afghanistan. A total of 5,91 asylum seekers registered in the country in November which was less by 941 of the previous month.

It was reported that 34,653 asylum seekers arrived in Switzerland during the 11 months of 2015, a big chunk of them being from Eritrea.

Eritreans make up the largest national group of asylum seekers to Switzerland, with 6,640 Eritreans having been granted refugee status in 2014.Only two other European countries had accepted more Eritreans in 2014: Germany, with 13,200 and Sweden, with 11,500.

The total number of Eritrean refugees who asked asylum in Switzerland in recent years alone is estimated to be well over 25,000.
