Peter Feldmann, Mayor of Frankfurt to Address Eritrea Festival 2015 Today, 2 August, at 1pm

The Mayor of Frankfurt, Mr. Peter Feldmann, is scheduled to address the Eritrea Festival today, 1 August, at 13 hours (1pm). This will be the first time ever that a mayor of Frankfurt, which is the European financial capital, is addressing an Eritrean event in the city.

It is expected that Mr. Feldmann, a 57-year old member of the Social Democratic Party, known as SPD in its German abbreviation,  was elected as the Mayor of Frankfurt in July 2012.

It is to be recalled that the mayor sent a modest financial contribution to the Eritrea Festival last year through is representative who address the festival on his behalf.

In his address to the Eritrea Festival tomorrow, Mr. Feldmann is expected to support the cause of Eritreans struggling for democratic change in their country.

Also scheduled to talk at the Eritrea Festival today are representatives of other major German political parties including the ruling party CDU, its coalition member SPD and the German Green Party. Many Eritrean political and civil society organizations are also scheduled to address the festival and continue a panel discussions on the issues they will be able to raise in their solidarity messages.

The annual Eritrea Festival has officially opened on Friday although the major events are scheduled to take place today, Saturday 1 August.
