Embassy in the Eritrean Capital of Asmara
An Open EPDP Thank You Letter To USA
H.E. Chargé d’Affaires Steven C. Walker,
US Embassy, Asmara, Eritrea
June 14, 2022
Your Excellency Steven Walker,
I, the undersigned Chairman of the Eritrean People’s Democratic Party (EPDP), am profoundly pleased to be writing this open letter of appreciation to you and your Embassy staff for the appropriate message you addressed live from Asmara as keynote speaker at the Erisat TV symposium held in Washington DC on 11 June 2022. I am writing this letter to pay deep gratitude to you on behalf of my party in exile, but I also know that the vast majority of Eritreans, at home and abroad, would join me in deeply thanking you for your being their voice in this manner.
It has been quite some time since your Facebook messages started openly telling the authorities in Asmara that the way they are treating their own people was unfair and wrong. We Eritreans understand from your messages that:
Your Excellency Chargé d’Affaires Walker,
Your pertinent messages have been welcomed to us in the wider justice seekers’ camp in exile, including the worthy team of the Erisat television who deserve warm congratulations for the successful symposium that you attended virtually. On our part, EPDP’s Liberty magazine repeatedly noted and warmly welcomed your writings. Our latest periodical last April even called upon the 21 embassies, 7 consulates and the delegation of the European Union in Asmara to kindly follow your good example and openly speak out about all what is going on in Eritrea and tell their governments to make the necessary pressure to help bring about change in that unfortunate place.
Again, thank you Mr. Walker, and we pray that your good efforts will bear fruit.
