ADDIS WAELA: THE BASTION FOR COMPROMISING THE CAUSE FOR POWER GRABBING
Here you have people that never got the chance of enjoying the fruits of independence secured by the martyrdom of its sons and daughters. Due to some bad luck, the people live, if you call that a living, under a regime that has no plan what so ever to lift the command economy that impoverished the people and the regime itself. On the other hand you have a few former communists who discovered God in foreign lands as Saleh Youns once wrote, who are touting with their stupid ideas to divide the people into religious, ethnic and even tribal grouping which is a prelude to leaving the union. For this, the so called educated are directly responsible – particularly the ones who claim to know more about Islam than the God fearing normal Muslims I grew up with.
Let’s picture the image of the country in the event, God forbid, their project of mfnetah succeeds. There will be no country the martyrs and the disabled delivered us. Now, let’s begin the insanity journey with the hot potato issue of Denkalia. Any moment the Denakil are given the signal of secession, you would see the Ethiopian govt. throwing the biggest party ever. When they are given the gift of life in a silver platter, why would they not? And why wouldn’t the Denakil choose to merge with their Affar brethren across the border in Ethiopia? This is by no means to say they are not Eritreans; like any one of us they are. But they are the victims of being pulled between Ethiopia and the asghentayoch ( Amharic word) on one side, and the rest of the Eritreans on the other.Because of their resistance to the independence struggle, the Kunama are the second favored beher in Ethiopia. And so, if they are given the choice like Denkalia, which way do you believe their next move would be? I leave the answer to the reader. To be fair to the others, I am only talking about the Kunama who accept Mr. Kernelios as their representative. What about the newest behere-Rashaida? To begin with, these guys never liked Eritreans. They thought the land they have been roaming around for years was no man’s land. They hate control. Above all they despised ghedli Eritra. One day one of them was herd saying in Arabic “ inshala Eritria matehareret.” It means: I hope Eritrea won’t get its independence. This was probably said as a reaction to the tight control of tegadelti over their contraband routes. There will be more dark history not yet fully told about them.
In any event, if they too were given the fiction of “mesel beherat ksab mghinzal,” they would not hesitate to annex the territory they occupy to join their brothers and sisters on the Sudanese side. Because running your own independent state is not as easy as sloganeering from the Diaspora. I want to know which nationality would split from the rest of us and be able to run its own sovereign state? Which nationality asked these zealots to live in isolation from its fellow Eritreans? I say none. May be that is why the actors imported a white man from North America to Addis to convince the participants that they would be better off when each nationality goes its own separate way. Is this paving the way for religion - based federalism – one of the most dangerous enterprises the Waela was mainly called for? I suspect it is. Federalism as a concept is not objectionable as such. But the kind a few opportunists are pushing for is incongruent with our background and economic capabilities. It will only be a tool in the hands of its proponents to exploit our diversity.Having said all that, the social engineers must not think that those of us who reject the rationing of rights according to once ancestral origin or religion are oblivious about the plight of our people in general. We are also cognizant that our people’s grievances may vary in degrees. We still dismiss the notion that some are survivors of holocaust as orchestrated on some notorious websites. Speaking of websites and or webmasters, some author of a medium book is accusing unidentified enemies of campaigning against the sale of his book. However, by the same breath he bragged that his book is selling like enda Camossi bread in the good old days in Keren. So who ever you are, please stop the campaign so that he may not continue acting like a crybaby.
His pomposity is not limited to the above; time after time he claims that there is no website that can even come close to his website. Yes, in his hay days one can say he succeeded in managing a high level website. Nevertheless, to the chagrin of many, he turned the empire into the playground of narrow issues contributors leading the way himself to the cliff. Yet, after all that tumbling down he keeps bragging about it. I suspect all the noise he makes is a cover up for the irreparable damage he caused to his website. Imagine, what he did to his friends and his fans not to mention his diabolic attempts to saw seeds of discord among our people. Anyone living and breathing human being with such monstrosity may pretend that everything is dandy with him. But in reality he has no clear conscience. He is not at peace with his inner self. This same individual did not hide his jubilation before the outcome is in. As he put it: the fact that the conference is being held in n’ of itself is enough for him to declare victory. He challenged those of us who did not wish to participate in the conference to cut our throats or fingers. Why would those who remain steadfast against the conspiracy weavers give their throats? Because they didn’t want to be part of their waela where Eritreans are taking forced lessons on how to depart from each other? What is the deal of these freaks in the 21st. century? Is evil good and good is evil in their distorted mind-set? May be we are far behind in the age IT. Tell us Mr. Braggabondash! Don’t go to the dictionary folks; the word doesn’t exist!! Sorry for breaking the rule. Finally, I suggest our brother should be awarded with the word “bragging” as his middle name instead of the one he uses now. Just kidding.
PS: So far members of the New York delegation have been highlighting the positive side of the conference. We don’t know what their final assessment will be. What ever may be shaping up in the gathering, it won’t come as a surprise. Nevertheless, one of them missed an important point about the departure of Biniam Tekie. He left the waela on its initial days when he observed things uncharacteristic of a national conference. According to an interview with assenna radio, one of the NY delegation expected Biniam to tell him his disapproval of the waela openly. In that kind of atmosphere the London delegate had one and only one choice; as he correctly did, he had to make up some personal excuse and leave the country in a complete piece. I am a little exaggerating about his safety of course, though you never know what the EDA bosses can do there by proxy. Do I know what the outcome of the conference will look like? I don’t. Does the title of my article correctly describe the hosts of the waela? According to their track record, you bet it does.| < Prev | Next > |
